Helen Blackburn
MAYOR OF BUNDABERG REGIONAL COUNCIL
Bundaberg born and bred.
Fighting for the region I love.
ABOUT HELEN
I grew up in this region, and I've spent my career fighting for it.
Before taking on the mayoralty in 2024, I served as a councillor from 2016 to 2020, then spent four years in private enterprise, including three years as Development Director on the largest development project in the Bundaberg region. That work taught me how to get things built, how to cut through red tape, and how to deliver outcomes rather than just talk about them.
I hold a Diploma in Project Management and have been a longstanding advocate through the Urban Development Institute of Australia, serving as the inaugural Secretary of the Bundaberg branch. In 2022 I was named UDIA Business Woman of the Year.
This region raised me. From the cane fields to the Burnett River, from Bert Hinkler's legacy to the turtles that return to Mon Repos every year, Bundaberg's identity is something worth protecting and building on. That's what drives me every day as Mayor.
What I'm focused on
Fixing the infrastructure gaps this region has waited too long for
Backing our farmers and cutting agricultural red and green tape
Delivering real outcomes on flood protection, housing, and regional growth
Straight talk, no spin, direct answers to the questions people are actually asking
